President Report 2000-2001

Another year has come and gone. The Rotary Club of Loganholme is still standing strong on its foundations. What we really need to do now is to build on these foundations so that we are able to accomplish everything that we set out to do. Increasing membership is the best way that we can do this.

Personally this past year has been a very stressful one for my family and I, with my father's illness and passing and also Dorothy's illness. However I would like to thank all of you for your help and support through those times. Indeed it was largely due to the friendship from all of you and the stress relief offered by Rotary meetings and projects that enabled me to cope.

I wish to thank all of our club directors for the time and effort that they put into meeting our objectives for this year. In particular I would like to thank PP Darryl for stepping into the chair during my absences, and PP Peter who was always there able to give me advice and point me in the right direction.

In reflection some of the highlights of the past; year have been. (In no particular order)
" Pride of workmanship night
" Surprising Graeme Bosanquet with his Paul Harris Fellow award
" Having Rebecca return to tell us about her Rotary exchange year in Germany
" Meeting with Emily and Amelia after their RYLA week
" Welcoming John Heron into our club as a new member
" The Leukaemia Foundation headshave
" The V8 experience day. AWESOME!

There are three very special people, my children Natasha and Cameron and my wonderful wife Denise, who were always there ready to help and support me. I know that Denise would have liked to be a lot more involved with the Rotary partners but unfortunately time was not on her side.

I am proud and honoured to have been President of the Rotary Club of Loganholme for the 2000/2001 year and I wish your incoming President David and his wife Kim all the best for their upcoming year.

Thank you
Steve Hendey

Secretary's Report 2000-2001

Another year has disappeared and it seems as though the last Changeover was only a couple of months ago. We have lost one member this year - Kevin King - but we hope we will he will be able to re-join the Club in the not too distant future. We have gained one new member - John Heron - and we sincerely and warmly welcome him into the Club. The net result is no change to the total numbers. During the year Judy Arundel was married - now Judy Farmer - and her partner Sid is another asset to the Club as are all our partners.

Stephen Hendey has personally had a very difficult year but has still managed to fulfill his duties as President with dedication and ability. I have enjoyed working with Stephen this last year and I thank him for his commitment. I would also like to extend my appreciation of all of the Directors and Committee members for the work they put in to make this Club so successful. I would like to add an extra thanks to Al Short for his continuing efforts for the Club, this year's activity being the Motor Racing day. Also I would like to extend my gratitude to David Cocker for producing the Bulletin and David Roseby for his journalistic abilities. This is a major job as a Bulletin is produced almost every week and this is a big undertaking. Also my thanks to Judy Farmer taking on the role of Registrar as this again reduced my workload.

I will be continuing in the role of Secretary for the next Rotary year and I look forward to an exciting year being a part of David's team.

Lorraine Howson

Treasurer's Report 2000-2001

Our accounts will be audited following the end of the financial year and these will be presented to our Annual General Meeting for acceptance. In the mean time, however, you may be interested in some of the details taken from our yearly accounts to date.

In our Club account our receipts for the year have been over $25,500 and in the Community account approximately $13,000. Our members' subscriptions for the year have been $4,000 and we have paid dues to RI, District 9630 and Rotary Down Under of $3,320. Members have paid $15,443 for meals and the Club in turn has paid $13,923 for catering. Club purchases for the year have accounted for $2,180 and we have paid $52 to the Government for cheques we have written.

Our fund raising over the year has been fairly low key with our only major project being the V8 Experience run in May. This resulted in a profit of $2,810.40, which, added to our annual payment for our bus shelter sites of $3,200, was our fund raising for the year.

From these funds we have paid for two young people to attend RYLA and a further two to RYPEN. Additionally $3,000 is donated to Whitecross Inc to fund the Australian School Achievers Programme at Kingston College.

Club Service Director's Report 2000-2001

The avenue of Club Service is concerned primarily with the orderly and efficient administration of the Club and its activities.

If this is achieved, the Club is a happy one and the flow-on effect sees the other avenues of service able to operate productively in their own spheres.

There are various jobs or areas of responsibility taken on by individual members for the course of the year under the Club Service banner and a fine effort has meant that as a team we have generally succeeded in our task.

I thank our ADG PP Peter Nelson for his input this year and for the time and attention he has given to District matters.

Thanks also to our Secretary Lorraine Howson for a job well done and likewise to our dependable Treasurer Barry Swain.

Noel Ambler has performed admirably as Sergeant, keeping us poor every week (particularly the Solicitors amongst us!).

Judy Farmer has looked after attendance, Ian West the guest speakers and David Cocker has done an excellent job in carrying on the onerous and generally thankless task of Bulletin Editor. Thanks also to committee member David Roseby for his wise counsel throughout.

We have received great support from Fitzy's during the year, in particular from Tina and Paul behind the scenes and also from Annie Moyse who has looked after us at meetings.

Congratulations to President Stephen on a great year and best wishes to incoming President David and his board for the next twelve months.

Chris Monahan

Vocational Service Director's Report 2000-2001

Another Rotary year has passed and Rotary in Loganholme continues to serve the community and the club.

The activities of the Vocational Service committee continue to centre around the main event of the vocational service calendar, which is the Vocational Service award presentation evening.

This year was no exception with awards being handed out to staff at two hospitals, the police force through assistance with a school programme and to 'Canteen' a programme to help children with cancer. This event filled our meeting room at the hotel and was a very successful and entertaining night for all who attended.

On another evening members visited a funeral director's premises for a tour and had the procedures for different ethnic customs and ceremonies explained.

More recently we experienced a very entertaining evening learning about the current research being undertaken by the Queensland Institute of Medical research during our dinner meeting.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of my committee for their assistance and congratulate President Steve for a job well done throughout the year.

Jim Nolan

International Service Director's Report 2000-2001

We are member of Rotary International and as the name implies, the internationality of Rotary is very important to us.

Therefore it has been my pleasure to have serviced this club as its International Service Director this past year.

With the assistance of my committee members Judy Farmer, President Steve and Jim Nolan as our Exchange Student Counselor we achieved a number of goals and highlights this year. These were:

" The safe return of Rebecca from Germany in January.
" The celebration of Rotary's birthday, World Understanding Day, at a noisy Lone Star Restaurant. On that night we also acknowledged the work of Polio Plus as it was the anniversary of the first mass inoculation with the Salk anti-polio vaccine.
" Continues to support the Donations-in-Kind project under Rotary Australia Work Community Service (RAWCS) by:
Attending rostered days at the DIK facility
Collecting stamps
Distributing letters to all schools and child care facilities in our area resulting in six loads of goods from three schools being taken to DIK and also a new member for the Rotary Club of Logan Sunrise.

Continues to recognise the internationality of Rotary through our International toasts each week.

But the ultimate for the year was an awesome day at the racetrack, which saw 23 people, take up the opportunity to drive a V8 racecar for 10 laps of Darlington International Raceway. Through support of The V8 Experience, RACQ Insurance and 4KQ we raised $2,810.40 for Rotary Overseas Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC).

During the coming year I hope to continue this work for our International community with the assistance of my committee.

Congratulations to Steve on your year and good luck David.

Community Service Report

The Rotary year again started well with our annual involvement in the Queensland Cancer Fund Doorknock Appeal. This year saw a greater turn up of volunteers and as such we made a notable contribution to the fund. Following the success of the Doorknock one of our volunteers, Di Seaward - herself a cancer sufferer, coordinated and ran a successful fundraiser. Di gained some notoriety by suggesting that a can of baked beans signed by Dick Smith was a somewhat miserly contribution. A donor later paid $3000 for the Aussie made product.

Christmas cakes and puddings were again on the agenda but drew small response from buyers.

A new venture began in the New Year with a presentation by the Health Director from Logan House, a rehabilitation center for drug and alcohol dependant sufferers. As a result our club provide support by way of clothing, shoes, a computer and some equipment.

Clean Up Australia Day again focused on the Alexander Clark Park in Loganholme. To the delight of all the park is being maintained very well by the local council, albeit that there was still plenty of litter to pick up. Thanks go to several members from Logan House who were given day leave to assist. Likewise a number of community minded locals assisted on the day.

The annual Hyperdome stall, for the sale of Bowel Scan kits, was again set up. This year however the power of Mother Nature dampened what would normally have been a worthy community activity. Thursday began well, but when the rain broke on Friday and sent down the largest downpour in 100 years the number of patrons normally found at the Hyperdome was significantly diminished. They were more than likely cleaning up after the storm just as a number of our members had to.

Shave a Head for a Cure was not forgotten this year and two notable club stalwarts came to the fore. Club President Stephen and wife Denise cropped their locks for the cause. Well done to both - - a move that I for one would be reluctant to undertake.

Throughout the year significant support has been ongoing to the Australian School Achievers Program (ASAP) at Kingston College. Club members Barry Swain and David Cocker, along with Denise Hendy and Robyn Cocker have provided their time to assist in mentoring a group of 25 year ten students. The program runs on a Wednesday morning and continues to challenge these young people to dare to dream and reach for their goals.

Thanks to all involved throughout the year in supporting our local community and I hope to see you all out and about assisting in whatever way you can.
