PRESIDENT'S REPORT 1981 -82

Our first full year as a Rotary Club has been one of membership education regarding the ideals of Rotary and firmly establishing our club within our community.

Although our club membership has declined during the year our club has grown in club spirit, with a sense of purpose being created among the members.

My years has been by no means easy since I had to learn, along with the rest of the club, what Rotary was all about. I therefore found my year both challenging and rewarding, a year that will undoubtedly be one of the highlights in my life.

Although the reports of my directors have outlined our year there are some highlights I feel I should make reference to.

All our fund-raising activities throughout the year were highly successful not only in funds raised but also in fostering fellowship among the members. These fun-raising activities have enabled our club to make donations to various organisations located in our area.

Our most significant community contribution this year has been the development of a 1-½ acre park in the Kimberley Park Estate. Although this will be an ongoing project funds have been allocated to purchase playing equipment.

The club members have keenly supported the work Experience Scheme in which school children from the Shailer Park Hight School spent a week working at various members' places of business. Early in the year the club organised a tour to the G.M.H. plant to Acacia Ridge for forty students from the Shailer Park High School.

Our club also benefited greatly from joint meetings with the Rotary Club of Logan and the Rotary Club of Tambourine Mountains. These meetings not only offered to us a change of venue but also a chance to meet other Rotarians in fellowship.

To my directors and other members of the Board, my sincere thanks for a job well done.

I would also like to thank my Rotaryanne Karen, for the support she has given me throughout the year.

Finally I would like to thank all the club members for your support during the year. Also my best wishes to incoming President Peter Chinnery and his anne, Lynne, for a successful and rewarding year.

Gary Olsen

CLUB SERVICE 1981 - 82

As we approach this clubs second changeover, it is with anticipation we look forward to a new year of new ventures fellowship and experience in all avenues of service based upon solid foundations established since our charter.

During the past year there has been a net loss of nine members. As with most young Clubs some fluctuations in membership numbers can be anticipated, for Rotary is a strong disciplinarian. However the loss of any one member is immeasurable in terms of lost fellowship, and lost contribution to a well-balanced dynamic combination.

One of our losses through the year was the elected Sergent of Arms. The gap has been filled by weekly duty sergeants, which has given some rather lively fine sessions.

No clubs can function without a number of behind the scenes engineers, who by their dedication ensure thing that need to be done, are done. Particularly I wish to thank Registrar Warren, Bulletin Editor Bob, and his worthy assistant Megan, and our printer Kel, for their respective efforts throughout the year.

During the year, it has been the Boards objective to consolidate, I am of the opinion that this aim has been achieved, and from this consolidated basis, an expansive program can be pursued.

Club Service Director Dave

COMMUNITY SERVICES REPORT 1981 - 82

With our club aim firmly establish the Rotary Club of Loganholme within our community, it was not surprising that this avenue of service received the most club support.

All the funds raised have been dispersed or allocated to organisations within our boundaries.

The club has allocated $1000 to the Shailer Park Primary School for the purchase of reading kits and library books.

The Blue Nurses have received breathing equipment and $1000 has been donated in petrol. The petrol to be used by their fleet in our area.

The Shailer Park High school has been allocated $500 towards the cost of cricket practice nets.

During the year donations were also made to the Q.A.T.E., Heart Foundation and the Autistic Children's Association of Queensland. Our club has also pledged its support for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, which will be held in late July.

Our most exciting venture during the year has been the development of a Rotary Park in the Kimberley Park Estate. The park covers an area of 1-½ acres between Adelong Road and Caparra Street. The support of the club members in this community project has been tremendous. So too has been the support to Mal Brodie who although a non-Rotarian donated his services for a day and the use of his front-end loader with post hole digger. At this stage the park has been cleared of all rubbish and debris, two large Rotary signs erected and approx. 80 trees planted. The next stage will be the erection of log playing equipment for which the club has allocated $1500. During the year the club has been associated with a number of community activities.

In September a number of club members were involved in the Loganholme Fun Run, which was a great success. Others involved were the Management Committee of Cornubia Park, the P & C Association of the Shailer Park High School and the Loganholme Progress Association.

In November, President Gary presented the clubs Annual Citizenship Shield to the Shailer Park High School girl student who had excelled in schoolwork and sport. This presentation coincided with the official opening of the school.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole club for their support throughout the year. You have clearly demonstrated service above self.

International service report: June 1982

Director: Darryl Hood
Committee: Ron Lewis
Bob Jones
Graeme Bosanquet
James Scally

Throughout this year we carried on with the aim of educating our members in the fields associated with International Service and becoming involved wherever possible.

(a) ROTARY INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Investigation of the possibility of hosting and the sending of one exchange student away overseas was carried out during the year but the board decision was to look at this in the future as the costs involved were beyond the budgetary obligations the club was committed to. On a brighter note we once again on two occasions had Sue Roseby address the club and Cameron Scally on his return home from Japan after his sponsorship by the Beenleigh Rotary Club. Also visits from Beenleigh's German and Brazilian students were received very well and gave us an impromptu talk about their countries.

There was a talk from our district chairman Merv Samin which was well received and he explained many points about the scheme to our members should we become a sponsoring or hosting club.

On seeing the results of the exchange scheme in these young men and women we must become a participator very soon because the benefits are there to be gained by all.

(b) F.A.I.M.
Contributions towards F.A.I.M. were taken during the year and we have
12 life member Rotarians
4 life member Rotariannes
8 yearly membership Rotarians
8 yearly membership Rotariannes.
Those of the members who are not participating so far, of so when the new board promotes the F.A.I.M. scheme. Unfortunately we had no one actively involved in one of the F.A.I.M. touring teams

(C) ROTARY FOUNDATION

Our collections towards the foundation if you do not already know are made through the timber box that is passed around every meeting for your loose change contributions. At the end of June 1981 we became a 100% contributor and with the money received so far this year we will be on the next plateau of 200% in June 1982 with the cheque of U.S. $10 per head of membership.

A slide presentation of the foundation's operations was shown at one meeting this being synchronised with an explanatory tape and all these were obtained from one of the promotional kits.

(c) GENERAL

Letters of correspondence were sent to South Africa, South America and Canada together with our clubs good wishes and banner.

Finally I wish the incoming director all the best for the ensuring year and a continuing participation of the club in International Service.

Darryl
ROTARYANNE REPORT 1981 - 82

I would like to thank the Annes for making our meetings a success as well as making new friends.
