Issue14 9/12/02 Once again a very busy meeting, highlighted by the AGM and the announcement from PE Peter Crouch of his board for 2003/2004 and Peter's PE Lorraine Howson. Our first lady President. Congratulations from us all. Of course we had other highlights, Suzie Staden gave a terrific job talk, although it contained plenty of information enabling us to get to know Suzie better. It was noted the Chris Monohan did show a great deal of professional interest in Suzies chat. PDG Mel Langley gave us an insight as to the planning and activities of the RI convention. It really does sound an event not to be missed, so please take Mels advice and register now. As an aside the Prez has been watching the exchange rate and thinks the time is probably right to get the best price. Plus you have to register before the end of the month, to enable us to possibly receive a rebate.
International: Daryl, and district are now getting to the desperate stage for host families for an inbound exchange student. So please give this wonderful program some thought. We are a primary club for the inbound GSE team from Italy next year, we will be updated as this gets closer. Club: With brilliant delegation Dave, has now got the OK from Fitzy's to proceed with our Rotary sign. Knowing Dave's ability I am sure we will have Logan Club responsible for the remainder of the work (and the cost) So watch the space under the XXXX sign. Alan Short on the job as usual, has proposed the 17th of February as our Rotary info night for us to encourage more people to join this wonderful organization David Khoury and Daryl Hood are combining their talents to produce one of the ideas that came out of our brainstorming night. A super dooper computer desk, which will be raffled later this year. The Interfaith Blessing of the proposed site for the Logan Community Hospice will take place this Saturday at 2.00pm. Nofke Farm Park, Armstrong Road Meadowbrook. I am sure Randal would appreciate his fellow Rotarians support for this milestone. Getting the project to this stage has taken a considerable amount of work. Caitlans, farewell next week at Fitzy's optional partners night, but still 6.00 for 6.30pm Jokers Wild Jim Nolan H/T Visiting Rotarian Des. 84% attendance according to Roz Cheers.

Issue13 25/11/02 Actually this is from PP David Gardner, as I do have to work occasionally and was away, so a big thankyou to David for the summary of last weeks meeting. 23 members attended, plus 4 visitors and a guest speaker. Cheers |

Issue12 Our combined meeting with Logan Sunrise, provided both names of potential members and also ideas for fundraising, With PP David Gardner and PP Alan Short conducting the membership drive many ideas and discussion took place. In fact the two presenters were going so well that the Pres had to step in and remind them both that "our meetings always run on time and we did not wish to ruin that excellent record" Alan is collecting the name sheets this week, so please return them to him. We will set a date for our Rotary Information evening and send out the invitations. Now for the fundraising, below is the list we compiled on the Whiteboard, however the ever efficient staff at Fitzys, commenced to wipe the board clean before Sec Lorraine was able to note them, so if your super idea is not on the list please let me know. Please note for legal reasons we have been forced to shelve the rob Roseby $100 note fundraiser, this is indeed a disappointment as Randal Dennings was very keen on it. Enough of the frivolity we must plan and put at least two of the suggestions into action ASAP. Please appraise them for practicality, potential and the clubs ability to efficiently run. The board has approved the new layout for the Intermesh cover and it will be used in the next edition. PDG Don Hay is seeking assistance in the continued development of the District Headquarters at Wolston Park. Our club is not exactly filled with tradesmen but it does have "many " great BBQ chefs, and Don is seeking just three for Saturday November 30th. As we were unable to assist his last call, I really feel we are committed to help with the cooks. Please let me know if you are available and I will pass the names on to Don. SUGGESTIONS FOR FUND RAISING HAMBURGER SALES, SELLING PRINTED
CARDS, PENS, ETC. THROUGH INTERNET MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The latest profiles will be on our Web site (www.auau.com.au and follow the links) put together by David and Wes, but we still are waiting for more. Jokers Wild, Rosalie Harmston H/T Alan Short |
P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue10 28/10/2002 From the President Once again, a very interesting meeting with our guest speaker, Cathleen Wallis, from the Logan Community Bank. So for those who believe it is better to own part of the bank rather than just putting you money in it, you now have a chance! Welcome back after several months leave to David Cocker, he tells me it was just flat chat at the Gold Coast every day. A get well soon goes out to Denise Hendy, partner of PP Steve. We trust that you will be back on your feet ASAP. Denise is in Room 906 at the Mater private Hospital and would be pleased to have some visitors, as she will be there for several days. Further to this if any club members who have not registered for the Ballina conference this weekend and wish to attend, please contact Steve, as he has paid for Denise who unfortunately will not be attending, so we have a vacancy. The guide for the profiles has been distributed, and if possible we would like to have them completed and returned next Monday evening. (Do not be shy about your achievements) I trust the examples provided by PP Alan (Holiday maker) Short and AG Peter Nelson will assist. A special thankyou to Rotarians Marie Grant and Graeme Bosanquet, who both put in a tremendous effort for our two recent events of the Bowls day and Vocational Service night. Alterations to the Bully cover will be done, and produced for further comment. Community Services: The bowls day was a great success, and all attending had a top day. The day raised $1627 towards the two powered wheel chairs. The intention is to supply the childs chair now and raise the remaining funds for the adult chair over the next couple of months. International: David Khoury did the honours for the International Toast, while Darryl is swanning around the South Pacific. Club Service: The Rotary sign at the front of
Fitzys is getting closer, as apparently we already have one made, and just need
an approved way to affix it. Vocational: Graeme thanked all members for the support on the Vocational Night, and was pleased to hand over the "How to do it" booklet to PE Peter Crouch. A board meeting was held after the meeting as
we had to pass the payment of our outstanding accounts. |
P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue9 From the President Vocational Service has done it again, with a great Pride of Workmanship awards night. Many thanks to Vocational Service Director Graeme Bosanquet, (and Lyn for the typing) Chairman Randal Dennings, Photographer David Khoury (have you checked our website they are all there www.auau.com.au and follow the links) plus the design and printing. David Gardner for the publicity he is going to get us!! And all club members who spread themselves around amongst our guests. However the Pres has received another black mark for not thanking Sec Lorraine Howson for all the work in obtaining the plaques and printing the certificates. My apologies Lorraine, now I know why you did not want to sit with me on Monday night!!! You knew I would forget. I was recently reminded of the serious way the awardees receive these awards, when I happened to mention in conversation to a business colleague of mine that our club had just had our pride of Workmanship night. Around five years ago he nominated one of his employees for an award (not at our club) and states that the attitude of the employee was even better than when he nominated her, and she was an exemplary employee for the years following, plus she reminded him constantly of others in his company who should be nominated. Plus I have already obtained his commitment to nominate one of his staff for next years awards. More Awards, our member Darren Black recently took out the Best Home Trade Service Award at the Beenleigh Chamber of Commerce Business awards night. Congratulations Darren. Please spare a thought for Wesley, we are all jealous of his very young appearance, and to prove how young he is, I am told he has the measles. I always knew you had to be young to get them. We need your profile for the Web site this week so do not be bashful. Community Services: Bowls Day Sunday 9.30am at Springwood Bowls Club. International: Suzie Staden mentioned the home hosting being arranged by district. Please do not feel that this is too early, as the conference is not till next June, we need to get numbers so the arrangements can be made with the international visitors. Club Service: Dave Roseby is looking for someone to design the bracket for our Rotary sign out the front of the Hotel. When is Daryl Hood back? Vocational: Graeme is resting, after the splendid effort on Monday night, however I understand another vocational visit is on the cards. Our registrar Roz is getting better with the percentages, and although
I was a bit excited on Monday Night I think 88% was mentioned. |
P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue8 07/10/2002 From the President Once again the Prez let the meeting go way overtime, (another black mark) but it was worth it. Our local federal MP David Jull kept everyone entertained, and provided us with an insight into the affairs of the Middle East and Afganhistan. It was also obvious he was very proud of the work being done by the Australian Serviceman and civilians in the region by the number of times he mentioned them. One member who is not known for hanging around said "I could have listened for another hour." Not to be out done the Job Talk by one of our newer members Wesley Taylor was very interesting coming from the country to the city and his success in the business world. I really enjoyed the part of how he persuaded his parents to mortgage their home to give him the start he needed. At the completion of his talk David Jull commented to me how wonderful it was to see for these young people showing so much entrepreneurial skills. The ability to change careers and goals and in Wesleys case go back to school, to enable him to tackle a different career. Well done Wesley a very interesting segment. It was also an honour for the Prez to induct his first member into the Club, a big welcome to Suzie Staden. Suzie will be serving on the International committee under the guidance of Daryl (the hoon when driving Carols car) Hood. Having the International convention in Brisbane next year I envisage a very busy time for Suzie. Community Services: Marie reminded us to gear up for the bowls day, and please get those teams organised. We really want to make this a great day. Remember Sunday October 20th 9.30 am International: Once again Daryl took us on a journey, this time to New Zealand to Toast the Rotary Club of Auckland. And I think he mentioned something about an "Americas Cup" yacht race being held there. Obviously there are no Aussies competing!! Club Service: Dave is acting upon the suggestion to alter the Bulletin cover, so please give your ideas to him. The Rotary sign on the XXXX sign (how appropriate!!) is proceeding. We need to supply the Hotel with a basic plan and Dave will be seeking the assistance from Logan Club in putting this together. Vocational: Graeme is putting the finishing touches to our Pride of Workmanship awards night. This has really grown and we all must make an effort to spread ourselves around on the night. With the number of guests attending I am sure there will be opportunities for us to increase our membership. Visitor, Richard Horn from Ipswich Nth gave us some foreign currency thanks to his mobile phone. Caitlan once again updated us on the happenings in Red Lodge. David Khoury has not lost his lucky streak
taking out the H/T, and Ray Carter "unfortunately" did not draw the
joker. Cheers Noel | |||
P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue7 01/10/2002 From theVice President Many Thanks to PP David Gardner for the following summary of last weeks meeting. The only matter of concern was his enthusiastic praise for the Sergeant!!! Lucky Grills was just magnificent.
Some people were almost crying from Raffle: PP Allan Short Reports: Club: following up on last week's guest speaker, Director Dave R showed a newspaper clipping on polio and told how polio affected kids in the country when he was young Community: Director Marie plugged the Bowls Day and also the Xmas Cakes and puddings Vocational: Director Graeme requested attendance numbers to be given next week for the Pride of Workmanship Awards on 14 Oct - 11 awards to be given. International: Director Darryl had no Int'l toast New Generations: Director Stephen advised of the formation of a Rotoract Club by South Brisbane Club Registrar: with attendance and
makeups, Registrar Roz had a figure of 96% Job Talk: PP David G spoke about his role as CEO of a Division of General Practice and fielded questions about doctor shortages & training. AG Peter Nelson advised that the District Board meeting had been held on the weekend. Club members Randall Dennings and Roz McCoy had been appointed as joint counsellors for one of the International Peace Students who will be at University of Qld from early next year. PP Randall stood in as Sergeant and was great. Overall, it was just the most superb night. Easily one of the best nights I have had in Rotary. It was a shame that you missed it.

P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue6 26/9/2002 From the President Fellows, as we are always on the lookout for new members, it is really time to start getting into action again on the ways to achieve this. PP David has scheduled a meeting with Logan Sunrise to assist them and ourselves, using the same formula we used in David's year. In simple terms we sat around a table and brainstormed for anyone we thought may be interested in becoming a Rotarian. Approaching this in a slightly different way, let us look at various classifications we do not have in our club. Getting the ball rolling, education and local government are just two. I am sure we all know of some eligible person in either of those classifications. Our next club assembly is on October 21st and we will spend part of that night putting some names forward. Oh Dear!
more thinking required, we really have to finalize our Christmas function, so
next week really is the deadline. Then we will make a decision!! The Pres will design a simple form for the Bio's to go on our Web site that David and Wes are continually working on, all going to plan we will attempt to complete on Club Assembly night. Jim Wilson from Logan Club in a very unselfish manner, has been kind enough to provide the pres with several "eligible" (potential Rotarians of course) ladies to chat up (or should that be follow up). Oh well we can only do our best, so a gracious thankyou to Jim and Logan. Well it finally happened Dave Roseby's Job talk, and it was worth waiting for, tracing Dave's life beginning in Inverell with share farming, shearing, Land Commissioner and even the Valuer Generals delegate determining land values, he enjoyed a very distinguished career, up till retirement in 1990. Now as he says he is a "Mower Man" Chris Monahan as usual did a splendid job in explaining the proposals that will be voted on at conference. PE Peter was elected unanimously to vote for us at conference. Pity he was not present. Bruce Mills as our guest speaker gave us a true from the heart speech on Polio Plus. We are all conscious of the effort that clubs and members have contributed over the years to the goal of eradicating polio from the World by 2005. But Bruce has taken it further by going out in the field and administering the vaccine. He has seen first hand the effects of Polio and what Rotary is achieving. Community Services: Have you arranged your teams for the Bowls Day yet? Plus we are looking for around 50 small prizes. Please see Marie. International: When listening to Daryl delivering his toast intermingled with the story about building Noah's Ark, I thought I was listening to the original "Hot Gospeller" After that I could not remember who we were actually toasting. Vocational: Pride of
Workmanship is now in the home straight. Oct 14th the big night

P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue5 09/09/02 From
the President Our meeting last Monday really provided us a great insight into the way Insurance (particularly Public Liability) has progressed and also what we may expect in the future. A big thankyou to program director David Gardner, for arranging Mike Sullivan from the Insurance Marketing group of Australia. Chris Monahan also gave a little heart to us poor blokes (I will cop the fine ladies) in his job talk with the new changes to the way the family law system will treat superannuation. So fellows if you are considering a change of status wait till December 28th. John Paskin co-ordinator of Donations in Kind has forwarded out the upcoming roster, so with plenty of advance notice, please keep Saturday November 9th free. It is usually only in the morning, and it a great opportunity to see Rotary at work. Rotary Awarness is from 23-29th of September, and is receiving good support. So when you next visit McDonalds please look at the placemat on your tray. We are often guilty of keeping rotary a secret, so the upcoming week is a step in the right direction to make the community more aware of Rotary. DGE Ray Brand is seeking nominations for Assistant Governors, many members of our club qualify for this role, so if you feel you wish to serve, please see me, as the nominations close by Sept 30th . David and Wes have really put enormous effort into our web site, and require a profile of each of us, to give the site a personal touch. I will be asking for your input (that is a bit about yourself and your vocation) next week. Allan Short mentioned the Logan Sunrise Club upcoming Car Rally, it is important to support other clubs activities. So for more info contact Allan. Community Services: Bowls Day October 20th Club Service: Rotary Sign on highway is still being followed up. Vocational: Pride of Workmanship is really rolling, Oct 14th is the night. Registrar Roz has worked the figures to 80% last meeting. H/T: Marie Raffle: Roz Cheers, Noel

P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue 4 2/9/02 From the President It was our pleasure to be the Host Club for the District Governors combined club meeting last week. This combined meeting did provide the opportunity to gain some insight into how the other clubs run and certainly raise money. Logans Golf day raised a net figure of around $28000 and Beenleigh is looking to have a successful effort at the Beenleigh Show. Although our club has not placed an emphasis on raising substantial sums, we have used our influence to provide very valuable equipment to the projects we have supported, eg the Ambulance for the Solomons. We are currently following up govt grants which we should be able to access, to put into projects. Thus there is more than one way to achieve the end result. However if you do have any great ideas to raise funds please bring them to the attention of the board. The following matters were mentioned by the DG in our meeting before the scheduled combined meeting. Membership Growth, Matching Grants and the Pledge of $150 per member for polio plus. Other items which came up in general discussion, the combining of projects between clubs, a Rotary sign on our Bus Shelters, the opportunity to use Beenleigh's 19 seater Bus and once again the opportunity to tap into Govt grants. The DGs address to the club also gave us some further information on the way R.I. President Bhichai Rattakul, is adopting a Back to Basics approach, with clubs determining there own objectives and fundraising. This Rotary year it is the goal to eradicate polio from the earth, with a further USD $80 million needed. Our fundraising has a multiplier effect of 10 to 1, every dollar we can raise will be worth $10 with matching monies. DG Ross emphasised the need to achieve this goal to enable the successful completion of 20 years work. Although Polio Plus is a major goal, we must still maintain our giving to the Rotary Foundation, to enable the many projects Rotary undertakes to continue. Once again a big thankyou to PP Alan Short, for his presentation speech to the DG. The wonderful toy tip truck made by Alan was a big hit with the DG, plus the Pen from David Khoury and our Club history on CD. Community Services. Marie really needs you to start putting your teams together for the Bowls day. Club Service. As Dave says, dues are due. Vocational. October 14th
is rapidly approaching so please get any potential awardees to Graeme. Last Weeks H/T Alan Short and the Raffle John Latham. Cheers Noel
P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue 3 From the President Another busy meeting last Monday, and yes we did run WELL overtime. The pres is a bit embarrassed about the meetings going overtime as he was the one always having a bit to say about the sometimes late hour of finishing, and now he is guilty. He shall attempt to address this matter. Last weeks guests included PDG Daryl Martin and Jenny (now residing in the tropical paradise of Cairns) some blokes have all the luck. Jim Wilson (Logan) Exchange Student Caitlan, Denise Hendy (introduced by David Gardner as Steve forgot) and guest speaker Scott McMullen. We must say "Bon Voyage " to Tres Barry who is going to be swanning around Europe for the next five weeks. NO MEETING at Fitzys this week as we will be on a vocational visit to Multispan Australia. 32 Precision Street Salisbury. Please attempt to arrive around 6.15pm Followed by Dinner at the Salisbury Hotel We were very well informed by our two speakers, firstly our registrar Roz in her Job talk (who is now headed for an even bigger challenge at the P.A. hospital) spoke about her role at the Logan Hospital, apart from the enormous number of staff Roz is responsible for, we were given several statistics on our area, in relation to the hospitals services. One which surprised me was the average age of patients at Logan is less than 40, yet the P.A. is 75 plus. We are part of a young community. Scott McMullen spoke on mental health,
with the problems and perceptions this particular illness has. There were several
comments made by members as to the excellent speech Scott provided, and he is
a definite for clubs looking for good speakers. Scott also benefited from being
the first speaker to be presented with our Rotary Stress heart. We trust it will
enable him to remember our club. International: Daryl, very well prepared gave a very interesting toast to the RC of Peterborough, which is the closest he could find to Woomera, where a lot of International guests are residing. Plus we send off the odd rocket, last week with a scram jet, which we were given a very good insight into several years ago. Club Service: Once again Dave mentioned our Dues, and also the need of guest speakers Vocational: Pride of workmanship, Graeme
would appreciate more nominations, so please, check with your business associates.
P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue 2
It was with sincere sadness that we heard of the untimely passing of PP Rod Blundell from Logan club. As mentioned in my email the funeral is at the “Newhaven Crematorium” Quinns Hill Road off Jacobs Well Road Stapylton at 11.00am. on Monday August 12th There will be no meeting this Monday as it is the Logan Show holiday, Randall has agreed to attend Fitzys for any visitors requiring makeups. (or any members turning up early for next week) Monday Nights meeting gave us all an opportunity to congratulate our two “high achiever members” in Judy Farmer and David Manfield. Both taking out major awards at the Logan Business achiever awards, plus Judy took out the major award for Overall Business Achiever of the Year. We really do have two members to be proud of. Unfortunately with all the congratulations and responses from Judy and David, we had to postpone Dave Roseby,s Job Talk. Most members “reluctantly” accepted this postponement but visiting Rotarian John Robertson did state he was very disappointed as it was the reason he had decided to do a make up with us. With such a huge demand (perhaps we can sell tickets) we will arrange Dave,s talk ASAP.!!! The guest speaker on Monday was AG Des Lawson, and it was certainly rewarding to have Des speak in such glowing terms about our club. Although I nearly choked on my sweets when he mentioned the paid secretary at a club where he recently did a makeup. I immediately distracted Lorraine to prevent her hearing such a disturbing matter! Apart from this Des did stress the need for us to remember to do makeups, continue in supporting Polio Plus, the friends of Rotary program and attendence at District conference. AG Peter Nelson spoke very briefly (just like Al Short) on several matters,
most importantly the continued support of Polio Plus with district aiming at $175
per member. Plus with several of our club members serving on district committees,
we should avail ourselves of the “inside info” by programming speaking
time for them. International. Darryl proposed a very timely and well prepared toast to the Rotary Club of Manchester. Club Service. Dave once again mentioned our dues are “Due.” Vocational.
Graeme (back from holidays) mentioned the pride of workmanship applications are
being distributed, so please if you have, or know of a company with suitable recipients
please see Graeme. The more we have attending the more significant the evening.
Our first vocational night is organised for Monday Aug 20th with dinner afterwards
at the Salisbury Hotel.
