POST OFFICE BOX  3034,LOGANHOLME.   QLD.   4129  QUEENSLAND      AUSTRALIA

What an exceptional guest speaker we had a last week’s meeting. Susan Teerds presentation of the history of her business life was certainly riveting and extremely well presented. This was evident by the fact that the attention of everyone was focused on Susan. She demonstrated what you can do if you have the enthusiasm and the drive and that if something doesn’t work or begins to become unenjoyable, then there is no reason not to go on a different tack.

DON’T FORGET THE ROTARY FOUNDATION SEMINAR. THIS WILL BE OF PARTICULAR INTEREST TO THOSE OF YOU INVOLVED WITH THE AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND PEACE SCHOLARS AND SOME OF YOU NEWER MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO LEARN HEAPS MORE ABOUT WHAT ROTARY DOES AND HOW THE CLUB CAN BECOME MORE INVOLVED IN VERY WORTHWHILE PROJECTS. THE SEMINAR WILL BE HELD ON THE MORNING OF SUNDAY, 12TH OCTOBER FROM 8.14 A.M. TO 1.00 P.M. WE HAVE TO NOTIFY THE ORGANISERS BY 4TH OCTOBER FOR CATERING PURPOSES.

THE BLUE CARE MILLION DOLLAR DRIVE …. Many thanks to Noel Ambler for volunteering to organise the locating of the Prize Car to the Loganholme Hyperdome.

The Topless Car Run organization is well under way and not far away (Sunday, 29th October). To support all the effort Noel and Graeme have put into this please start organising your entry sooner rather than later. Have you given your intentions to Marie yet?

KEEP IN MIND the sponsorship deals for the District Conference which look like they could be good value. Please mention it to any ethical business people you think may benefit from having the opportunity to market their product to Rotarians. Commerce makes the world go round and I believe that people should be given an opportunity to let people know about their business. This could lead to getting donations for raffles, new members, sponsorship for our wheelchair project, etc. The value for us is that it keeps Rotary in the business eye.

I have repeated Marie’s report from last week as it is all still relevant. Give it another read to jog your memory.

As we have a couple of members on extended leave and David Cocker has resigned we need to make an effort to increase the membership this year. Keep your eyes and ears open and even if people are not able to join our club there is sure to be a club in the area who would love to accommodate them.

If you have any items of interest you would like to publish in this bulletin please don’t hesitate to submit them to me. Or if you wish to comment on anything to do with Rotary your communications could be published for perusal and comment by the other members.

Cheers,
President Lorraine

A couple of Reminders from the Community Services Director:

· The ‘Guess who is coming to Dinner’ evening is on Saturday 6 December. Although there is still a lot of time till this date I would like to remind you that Marie will be going to Africa for a month during October and November and she needs to have all the arrangements in place before she leaves on 23 October.

- What we need you to do is:
1. Notify Marie if you will be coming to Dinner and the names of the guests that
will be coming with you.
2. If you have email please reply that way, Or
3. Notify Marie personally or contact her at work on 3364 6089 (Our hosts
for the evening will need to have plenty of time to prepare for the guests and
to plan the Menu.)

· Topless Car Rally – This is a biggie for the Club this year and we hope that all members will be able to show their support.
- A couple of weeks ago I said that you can’t play with your partner/wives. I didn’t mean that you CAN’T play with your wife/partner – only that it is more fun if you don’t. I want you to imagine how much fun it will be if ‘he’ doesn’t take the directions given or ‘she’ gives the wrong direction . . . . . Wars have been started for less . . . . Remember- it is not what I say that is important but what I mean.
-
· Melbourne Cup Function - Monday 3 November. This year we will be having our own Poolside Racemeeting at Peter & Suzie Nelson’s. We will need to have a Committee Meeting in the next couple of weeks to finalise the planning for this special evening.

· Wheelchair proposal – Well we have made contact with Surfers Paradise and we are awaiting the video to arrive.

· Chockies are still selling well.

· Thank You Ladies and Gentlemen for your attention and support of these events.

Subject: The thinking woman

A couple went on vacation to a fishing resort in northern Alberta. The husband liked to fish at the crack of dawn. The wife liked to read.

One morning the husband returned after several hours of fishing and decided to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decided to take the boat out. She motored out a short distance, anchored, and continued to read her book.

Along came Conservation Officer Al in his boat. He pulled up alongside the woman and said, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replied, (thinking "isn't that obvious?")

"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informed her.

"I'm sorry officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," said the woman.

"But I haven't even touched you," said the C.O.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment."

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.
