POST OFFICE BOX  3034,LOGANHOLME.   QLD.   4129  QUEENSLAND      AUSTRALIA

For 22nd  September, 2003

My sincere thanks to David Gardner for jumping into the breach whilst I have been
off ill.  I have unfortunately missed a couple of excellent meetings.   I believe
both the NZ Cricketers visit and the Son’s and Daughter’s Night were very entertaining.

There is a report from David on both nights further on.

Thank you to Allan James excellent presentation of the ACAP programme.
If we get the opportunity we should perhaps support this initially to give it an
opportunity to really get off the ground.   If we are not paying more than we normally
would then we have nothing to lose.   I’m sure Allan will go back to the ACAP
administrator with our concerns.    I will give everyone a list of the members
of this programme and  you can make your own decision.
Thanks also to Darryl Hood for his Job Talk and his report on having been contacted
by the Club’s first ever exchange student.   Maybe we could contact all  our exchange
students and find out if they have email.  Then we could send them our Intermesh so
they could continue to keep in touch with the Club.   It was timely for Daryl to talk about
property development as the market is so hot at the moment.  As has also been
developing residential property for the last 6 – 7 years I know it’s not as easy as it sounds.

He is involved as an adjunct to his plumbing business but it takes at least a year to a year
and a half after purchasing a property before actual ground can be broken

The Topless Car Run organization is well under way and not far away
(Sunday, 29th October).   To support all the effort Noel and Graeme
have put into this and as we should maintain our reputation of  being a
great Club we need to put up a good showing.   Please start organising your
entry sooner rather than later.  Let’s support this en masse and don’t forget –
Friday Night (19th) Wine Tasting at Augello’s in New Farm between
7.00 and 8.00 p.m. (See Date Claimers for address)    PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND

Further on in this bulletin there are some details on sponsorship deals for the District
Conference which look like they could be good value.  Please mention it to any ethical
business people you think may benefit from having the opportunity to market their
product to Rotarians.    Commerce makes the world go round and I believe that people
should be given an opportunity to let people know about their business.     This could
lead  to  getting donations for raffles, new members, sponsorship for our wheelchair
project, etc.    The value for us is that it keeps Rotary in the business eye.
It is very sad that we are losing one of our valued members to South Australia.
Farewell to David and Robyn Cocker and may their new life be full of comfort and joy.
And don’t forget to send your new address, David.  You never know,  some of us may
drop in and say hello some time.   And we hope you don’t forget Loganholme.
THE BLUE CARE  MILLION DOLLAR DRIVE …. The Million Dollard Drive
celebrates the distance travelled to care for Queenslanders.  Last year the Blue Nurses
travelled 10 million kilometres and made over 1 million  visits to provide client care
across the state.  Two vehicles are travelling to over 80 regional and metropolitan
areas since March 2003 and are being located inside shopping centres as part of a
competition to win the vehicle and to raise money and awareness at the same time.

Blue Care contacted District last year regarding assistance with relocating the promotional
vehicle within their District and each District indicated a preparedness to participate.

Help is requested of Rotarians to collect the vehicle from a location, clean the vehicle
and transfer it to a new shopping centre location.

It has become my task to co-ordinate the Clubs involved in the areas Loganholme,
Browns Plains, Capalaba and Wynnum.     PLEASE PUT YOUR HAND UP IF YOU
CAN HELP WITH THE HYPERDOME.
Browns Plains have indicated that they will
look after Browns Plains and they have only 8 or 9 members.   I have yet to contact
Capalaba and Wynnum
.

Cheers,     P. Lorraine

Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven.  When they get there, St. Peter says,
“We only have one rule here in heaven…don’t step on the ducks.    So they enter heaven and, sure
enough, there are ducks all over the place.  It is almost impossible not to step on a duck and though
they try their best to avoid them the first woman accidentally steps on one.  Along comes St. Peter
with the ugliest man she ever saw.  St. Peter chains them together and says, “Your punishment for
stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!”

The next day the second woman accidentally steps on a duck, and along comes St. Peter who doesn’t
miss a thing.  With him is another extremely ugly old git and he chains them together with the same punishment
as the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man,
is very VERY careful where she steps.  She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks and
one day St. Peter comes up to here with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on….
Very tall, tan, muscular, and with good hair.  St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The woman remarks, “I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all eternity?”

Monday 1st September 2003

We only had 16 members present, but 20 NZ visitors and 15 guests from

Beenleigh, so we had about 50 people there, which filled the room nicely.

Steve Hendey gave an excellent job talk, showing us some building journals

from around the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.  It was really quite interesting.

Bryan Fulcher from Beenleigh Club handed out awards from the cricket match

played the previous day.  John Dean who is the Secretary of the NZ Chapter

of the International Fellowship of Cricketing Rotarians, spoke about Rotary

fellowships (In particular the Cricketing fellowship) and the value they bring to

the Rotary movement.  He gave an example of a cricketing fellowship trip to

India that lead to a relationship between a NZ Club and an Indian Club, out

of which a matching grant application gave an Indian village a well for drinking

water.  He likened Rotary fellowships to GSE.

All in all it was another excellent night in the life of Loganholme Rotary.

Monday 8th September, 2003 – Son’s & Daughter’s Night

to mid 30’s (Roz’s daughters) as well as two mums (Therese Mitchell and

A couple of Reminders from the Community Services Director:

  • The ‘Guess who is coming to Dinner’ evening is on Saturday 6 December.  Although there is still a lot of time till this date I would like to remind you that Marie will be going to Africa for a month during October and November and she needs to have all the arrangements in place before she leaves on 23 October.

-     What we need you to do is:

1.  Notify Marie if you will be coming to Dinner and the names of the guests that

     will be coming with you.

2.  If you have email please reply that way,  Or

3.  Notify Marie personally or contact her at work on 3364 6089   (Our hosts

for the evening will need to have plenty of time to prepare for the guests and

    to plan the Menu.)

  • Topless Car Rally – This is a biggie for the Club this year and we hope that all members will be able to show their support.

-           A couple of weeks ago I said that you can’t play with your partner/wives.  I didn’t mean that you CAN’T play with your wife/partner – only that it is more fun if you don’t.   I want you to imagine how much fun it will be if ‘he’ doesn’t take the directions given or ‘she’ gives the wrong direction . . . . .  Wars have been started for less . . . .  Remember- it is not what I say that is important but what I mean.

  •  Melbourne Cup Function -  Monday 3 November.  This year we will be having our own Poolside Racemeeting at Peter & Suzie Nelson’s.  We will need to have a Committee Meeting in the next couple of weeks to finalise the planning for this special evening.
  • Wheelchair proposal – Well we have made contact with Surfers Paradise and we are awaiting the video to arrive.
  • Chockies are still selling well.
  • Thank You Ladies and Gentlemen for your attention and support of these events.
