Issue33 7/7/03 It has come around, and really so much faster than I thought, Yes my last info Bulletin as President of Loganholme Rotary Club. This week PE Lorraine Howson takes the reins, with the changeover this Monday evening July 7th 6.30pm for 7.00pm $35.00 per head. Lorraine is already underway with a meeting of the ladies last week to
plan some activities for the coming year, with the emphasis on Family
participation. There will also be more attention given to looking after
our own members who may find themselves in difficult circumstances. There
is certainly no holding this group back, a committee has already been
formed with Judy Farmer at the helm. Randal Dennings spoke about the new laws governing the advertising of loans, which must now quote the annual percentage plus all the fees and charges. This will allow the consumer to shop around for the true cost of credit. PP and AG David Gardner with assistance from Chris Mitchell really gave us a insight into our Health care system. One fact which I certainly was unaware, was the Medicare Levy we all pay only covers 27% of the total cost of health care. Youth Director PP Steve Hendy, notified us of the vacancy for one more participant from our club for the upcoming RYPEN camp on July 25th 26th 27th . So if you know any deserving young person in the 14 to 16 age group, please contact Steve. Community Services: Marie reported that 14 ladies attended the ladies
night, certainly a great turnout. Plus Marie announced a great result
on our Chokkie profits of over $1000. We must really International: Darryl handed the International file over to incoming Director Dave Roseby, but before doing so yet again drew attention to all those members who have not submitted there CV to our brilliant webmaster David Khoury. Club Service and Vocational: Did not have any matters to report. Perhaps me forgetting to pick up Graeme Bosanquet, just to ensure that 100% situation did not arise, resulted in no report from Vocational !!! To all the members, it has been a pleasure, being involved with such
a fine group of people. I look forward to seeing you at Changeover when
Lorraine takes the helm. |

Issue32 30/6/03 Our meeting last week was certainly well attended, with David Khoury bringing three guests and Steve Hendy one. Thankyou fellows and we certainly hope the guests enjoyed the evening. The job talk from Steve Hendy was interesting, and yes he does have a complex job with the many aspects of Bar Coding. Our guest speaker Personal Trainer Phil Foster had many of the members appraising their level of fitness, so we expect many of those Free trial passes to be used. I feel we should invite Phil back in a few months to report on how many members took up his offer on a more permanent basis. From the number of questions many were suddenly aware of how important your health is. Community Services: Marie announced a ladies night, no doubt we will look forward to the report next week on this momentous event. Club Service: Dave made our day by announcing no fee increase in the next Rotary year, and a brief report on the very successful 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Beenleigh. Vocational: Graeme reported the computers for the Bethania school had been arranged with DIK and will commence in the near future. Youth: Steve reminded us to consider nominations for RYPEN and the Siemans Summer science experience. RYPEN is approaching fast so please put your thinking caps on. District Changeover is on Saturday July 5th $40 ph if you wish to attend |

Issue31 23/6/03From the President As the saying goes one door closes, and another opens. Just as my Rotary year winds down, Lorraine and her new board are getting plans ready to adopt in the new one. The combined board meeting was conducted on Monday evening with Directors handing over paperwork and information. The club was privileged to have DGE Ray Brand visit our club. This came as a surprise, and I must admit the Pres thought we may be asked to assist in some way, but NO Ray congratulated the club on the way we enjoy our Rotary, and also the number of members we have serving on District Committees. There was an early reminder from Ray for his district conference, it is on March 25-28th 2004, so there will be no excuse, please put into your diary. The Rotary Club of Beenleigh is celebrating its 50th year, marking the occasion this Saturday evening with an anniversary dinner. As our sponsor club we wish them a very successful evening and there will be nine members and partners from Loganholme on hand to assist in the festivities. Marie has nominated to be a Team leader on an upcoming GSE team to the USA, on behalf of the club Lorraine and I have endorsed the nomination, and passed the paperwork on to Ray Brand for evaluation by the district committee. We certainly wish Marie the best in the selection and we know if selected she will be a great ambassador for our club and district. Further to this, Team members are required, for this wonderful experience. Please consider if you have any suitable people in your personal or business circle. Community Services: Marie passed on the messages of " thankyou" from the GSE team and Home Hosting guests. International: Darryl also passed on the good wishes from our guests, plus Elias really gave Darryl the shirt off his back. Not knowing how to express his gratitude for a really top night, Elias gave Darryl his very colourful shirt, and proceeded to walk through the Hotel lobby "topless". Club Service: Dave mentioned the situation with our Club Banners, fortunately Alan Short has enough for us to be able to meet our immediate needs, however we will have to decide if we are going to continue with banners, or investigate an alternative. Vocational: Graeme was pleased to announce the request from Bethania School for computers has been answered by DIK. The school is seeking fifteen, and DIK will be able to supply the requirement in three allocations of five over a period of time. Steve Hendy mentioned the possibility of the club assisting in running
a RYPEN program for the schools in our area. The next RYPEN camp is being
conducted in July, if you have any potential candidates in mind please
contact Steve. Cheers Noel. |

Issue30 P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129
16/6/03 From the President
Our visit to the PA hospital certainly went down well, just like the steaks at the Norman Hotel, we must all thank Roz and Graeme for organizing a top night.
Our rotary theme of "Service above Self" was really demonstrated by the club members with the organizing of the GSE team and the Home Hosting for our International guests.
My gratitude goes to David Cocker for stepping in to the hosting of my guest, when I had to travel interstate unexpectedly. Thankyou also to our other hosts Marie, Steve, Judy and Darryl.
Sincere thanks to Darryl Hood, David Gardner, Lorraine Howsen and again to David Cocker for organizing a terrific evening for the GSE team and Home Hosting. Our club has received many accolades from the guests on the way the evening was conducted, but the success is really down to the way the members create the atmosphere, every member deserves the accolades.
Our Webmaster David Khoury was really on the job quickly with photos of the night that had been taken by himself and David Gardner, on our web site the next day. Please have a look at www.auau.com.au and follow the Rotary links, it really is a credit to David and one of the best club sites around.
With the Rotary International Convention in town, the opening of the Rotary District Headquarters tended to be overshadowed, but two of our members Alan Short and Peter Nelson put in many hours in assisting to make this happen. Community Services: Marie has been "busy" with Pasquale. Are massages a normal part of the GSE team members experience?
International: Darryl was certainly a wonderful host, just ask him about the "new" shirt he has. Plus more guests including Lars and Nan will be enjoying the Hoods hospitality, at New Farm.
Club Service: Combined board meeting on the 16th June
Our raffle was won by Kylie Hood, who generously donated it Pasquale. I am told the choice of the items for the raffle (many thanks to Joan for putting it together at the last minute) went down very well, especially the Rum. But did they need to drink it all at the one time, and keep Marie up till 5.00am?
H/T went to Alan Short

19/5/03 From the President To show how flexible and adaptable our members are, we really had an evening of "fill ins" David Cocker filling in for Chris as Chairman, Peter Jones filling in for Roz as registrar, David Gardner doing a superb job as fill in Guest speaker. A sincere thankyou to all for accepting the tasks, and doing them very well.
Peter "China" Nelson undertook our normal job talk, and as he spoke about China, the enormous size of the infrastructure and population certainly was beyond my grasp. A new shopping centre of five acres or was that hectares, a reclaimed island to house five hundred thousand people. I am sure Peter could fill several hours, with the experiences he has already had in China. Peters offer to conduct an evening on "Investing in China" should be followed up.
The support advert in the Albert and Logan news for the International convention, has received support from Peter Nelson, Darren Black, Chris Monahan, and Peter Jones. Thankyou fellows, I will keep you informed of the requirements.
A big welcome back to Barry Swain as he has arrived back after "Skiing" in Europe, and of course to Marie Grant who has finally recovered from RYLA.
The letter endorsing the clubs nomination for the Energex community hero, Sister Lucy Tierney has been forwarded to Energex. A thankyou to Club Service Director Dave Roseby, for finding us such a worthy nomination. Plus we must not forget Sue Dennings who once again was called upon by Dave to word and type the application.
Community Services: Marie reports, that despite complaints from the "customers" the sales of our chocolates are increasing. To cater for these complaints Marie has introduced some more flavours, so we will no doubt get more complaints and more sales.
International: Darryl Hood informed us that the GSE teams timetable has been bedded down, and we can look forward to their arrival to our club on May 31st. We will be taking them to the AFL match on Saturday Night at the Gabba, AND Darryl has paid for the tickets on his credit card. So I am sure he would appreciate the opportunity to reduce the interest, if you could pay Darryl for your ticket. The GSE team members tickets are being paid by District. At this stage we have not received any information on the Host Dinner for the convention.
Club Service: Dave gave us a brief resume of our nomination for the Energex community hero award.
Vocational: Graeme has final numbers for our visit to the PA hospital and dinner at the Norman Hotel. We are to meet at the PA at 6.30pm on Monday week. I will forward out a "mud map" next week. Attendance 76% Raffle the Prez H/T David Khoury Cheers Noel |

>From the President
The club was also privileged, to have Christine Kleinshmidt (Anna's Mum) with exchange student Lucas Bieri and guest speaker John Briscoe. Plus I noted our local medico Nick Stevens popped in to hear John Briscoe's talk.
Another Club member Steve Hendy made a welcome re-appearance after holidays at Lake Perserverence and we are eagerly awaiting his co-Rylarian assistant Marie Grant to show up,(I have been reliably informed that next Monday could herald her return) boy those young people at the camps must really wear the Rotarians out, that they need such a long recovery time.
Guest Speaker John Briscoe, provided a very interesting talk on walking the Kokoda Trial, and some of the photos showed some very spectacular scenery. I am sure there are many club members who would be delighted to have the fitness level required to tackle the trek.
The advertising support for the Rotary International Convention through Quest Newspapers has been followed up, with a very satisfactory result. The paper will allow us to put a "Club" add in and we can include as many members businesses as we wish. So fellows please be prepared next week when we have to know who wishes to be involved and how much you are prepared to commit.
McDonalds have been informed of their four new team members for the McHappy Day fundraiser, So Lorraine, Roz, Steve and Peter, It is THIS Saturday May 10th, and we all expect to be asked "Do you want fries with that"
As mentioned recently, Northern Region Donations in Kind has a phone number listed as RAWCS Northern Region Donations in Kind it is 07 3355 5073
Also please mark in your calendar, Club Changeover Night is Monday July 7th. Plus the district Changeover will be held at Fitzy's on July 5th
International: Director Darryl is co-ordinating the GSE team visit, so please keep these dates in mind May 11th Welcome night at Mt Gravatt Bowls club. May 31st AFL game at the Gabba. And the big one a possible combined GSE team visit combined with the Home Hosting for the International convention on Monday June 2nd.
Vocational: Director Graeme has things in hand for our vocational visit to the P.A.Hospital on Monday May 26th, and afterwards at the Norman Hotel. Numbers have been taken, so if you missed the meeting last week and wish to attend, please see Graeme ASAP.
Raffle Steve Hendy H/T Darren Black Cheers Noel |

From the President Issue26 28/4/03 Just a reminder that any apologies (whilst Barry is away), can be noted by calling my office on 38065105 before 9.30am on Monday. Last week I did have a number of apologies and was a little concerned as to the success of our meeting, BUT I should not have, as we certainly had another interesting evening with three entertaining speakers.
Peter Jones (another example of the talent we have in our club) got things underway with his "job talk" and really gave us a worldwide cooks tour of his many adventures and jobs before finally settling down in Oz. I certainly did not know that Peter had worked for Lloyds of London, and this background has greatly assisted his carpet cleaning business. It is amazing how opportunities arise in the most unlikely way.
We have many programs to be proud of in our Rotary World, RYLA is certainly one of the best, as it really does change young peoples lives in a positive way. Over the years I have been involved with the club the RYLA story certainly has a similar theme. Initially the participants have a great deal of reservation about attending, often they are heavily "persuaded" by employers or parents. The first two days are extremely trying and they really have second thoughts about staying, then it starts to happen, and they wish it could last much longer. Belinda Bazant nominated by Ray Carter, was no exception, and it was very satisfying to hear her comments on the event. Positive thinking, team building and enormous benefit were just a few. It certainly was very satisfying to have such an excellent representative for our club.
Our third speaker was John Wintour from the Shailer Park High School Chaplancy committee, and once again members were given an insight into what is being achieved by a few dedicated people with limited recourses. It was of concern that the committee provides breakfast for up to 160 students twice a week, as one member asked "what are the parents doing?"
Community Services: Judy, on behalf of Marie (who was recovering from her holiday at Lake Perserverence) let us know that all Bowel Scan Kits will be collected up till the end of the month.
International: GSE visit on again, with all members being able to continue their original commitment. The CVs for the Web site that David Khoury has produced, are still needed, and it appears the majority of outstanding ones are from our lady members. This problem will be solved as several members have volunteered to write them for Roz Judy and Lorraine!!!
Club Service: Numbers for the McHappy Day, so far Roz Peter and Lorraine are attending, please let me know this week. It is on Sat May 10th at Loganholme.
Vocational: Dir Graeme would like the names for our partners night visit to the PA Hospital and afterwards for the meal at the Norman Hotel. H/T Alan Short Raffle Peter Nelson Cheers Noel |

From the President Issue25 14/4/03 As mentioned in last weeks info Bully we conducted a general meeting
to endorse PE Lorraine Howson and her team for the 2003/2004 Rotary year,
plus out PEN for the centenary of Rotary will be David Cocker. What a
year to be President! We have mentioned it many times, but some of the most interesting speakers
in the club are our own members. Darren Black certainly provided us with
an interesting chat outlining his career and aspirations, plus some very
good business advice in always being a person of your word, and put your
name to your business. Community Services: Judy Farmer spoke on behalf of Marie, who is holidaying on the RYLA camp. Once again Bowel Scan very successful and now in its final phase. David Cocker mentioned the success of many programs can be attributed to the amount of publicity we can generate. David also felt that next year we will modify our clean up of Alexander Clark Park to also cleaning the Rotunda areas. The Bowls Day and Chocolates are already programmed in for the new year.
International: Director Daryl was very impressed with the excellent write up our Club received from the Rotary Club of Chinchilla. (I must send the money!) In assisting Dave Roseby who assumes the International role Daryl encouraged the members who have not given David Khoury their profiles to please do so. Daryl wishes to see the Web site (which is already excellent) to be really used as a tool to promote our club and to have its own domain. We want to have the best Rotary Web site in the World and I really think we can achieve it thanks to David and Wesleys excellent work over the past year. A goal for the new year will be to have every club position have an email address. GSE Team back on with our Club being responsible from May 31st till June 4th
Club Service: Some fees are still outstanding for the second half of the year. In the New Year a closer liason with Fitzy's and the continued drive to increase our membership.
Vocational: Graeme reminded us our next visit will be to the PA Hospital on May 12th For the New Year we may encourage more employers to take young people for vocational training. (After listening to Darren Blacks job talk it sounds as thought some really need it.)
Once again we must wish Barry Bon Voyage as he is off SKIING!!! in Europe, So please let me know before 9.30am Monday (38065105 leave message )if you will be an apology.
H/T Graeme Bosanquet Raffle David Cocker
Cheers Noel |

From the President Issue24 7/4/03 We were very fortunate to have AG and DGN Des Lawson visit the club on Monday. Apart from doing an excellent job as guest speaker, Des also congratulated us on our "professionalism" with a request to be one of the three clubs facilitating his District Conference in 2005. Des certainly surprised us with the request, but obviously came prepared by bringing Jim Noble along to give us an outline of the task, and adding to the amount of confidence they had in our club, to do the job, if we accept the offer. I feel all members of the club should be congratulated for the accolade from Des. Further to this I received an email from Chris Mitchell last week apologising for being unable to do his job talk owing to illness. When speaking to Chris (who is our newest member) to wish him a speedy recovery it was pleasing to hear him say how much he enjoyed attending and being with nice people. (He obviously has not seen Ray Carter or Graeme Bosanquet after a pleasant Friday evening!!). Our club and Rotary also needs younger members such as Chris to keep our club and organization vibrant. We should invite Des along more often, he is the only person who has managed to leave Alan Short speechless! Apart from that Alan thoroughly deserved his award, and we all congratulate him. Many of us, (around 42 ) thanks to Barry Swains smooth organization and credit card, headed to the Lyric Theatre on Thursday evening to improve our appreciation of the arts by attending "Cabaret" It was different to what I expected, however I felt the silhouette scene was interesting, with one member mentioning that they must have copied it from Sexpo. I wonder how the unnamed member knew? Special thanks to David Cocker for filling the job talk role at extremely
short notice, and for providing us with an insight into the current war
in Iraq. He is certainly well qualified to speak on the subject being
involved as a Logistics Officer in the 1991 Gulf War. International: GSE team visit is currently "postponed". Daryl also mentioned the continuing saga of the Logan Hospice in the effort to find a dry site. Club Service: David is still waiting to hear from any club member who
knows where the Rod Henshaw Bowel Scan video is. Alan Short also mentioned
the need for assistance at Rotary District Headquarters next Sat. |
|||
From the President Issue23 At our last meeting we heard from PP David Gardner on the goals of the incoming RI President, PP Daryl Hood remarked to me later that getting new younger members was not on the list. I am sure the incoming RI President will certainly be looking for new younger members. To that end I was very impressed with the full page add for Rotary in the March 20th edition of Business Review Weekly (it is the mag I refer to, when keeping track of Randals activities) This is obviously part of the test marketing currently being conducted by Rotary in Canada and Australia. I often feel we are to modest in some of the wonderful activities we facilitate. Proof of the success of appropriate news items is clear with the success of this years Bowel Scan program. We must thank Judy Farmer for the placing of these "news" items. Below is an update from our Exchange Student Anna, Firstly, sorry for not emailing that often, I have been pretty busy since
I arrived in Switzerland with school and events. This month saw me going
to the Alps skiing in a little village called Lenk. It was wonderful,
I went for a week in a ski school and got top of my class. I also went
this month to Fastnachts, which is a celebration of the coming of spring.
It starts with the fire wagons which are run through the streets at 7:00
in the night, to chase out winter. Then at 4:00 the next morning Fastnachts
begins, and everyone dresses up in costumes, and marches down the streets.
There are also marching bands and clowns called Waggis that parade the
streets. My host Mum played piccolo for one of these marching bands, and
the whole group dressed up as Angels, so of course I dressed up as a Devil,
I got to lead the group as well.I have joined the local orchestra and
am now playing clarinet for the Pratteln Youth Musik every week. I am
also going to take yodelling lessons in April. School is going well, I
am actually beginning to understand my subjects. Community Services: Marie and the team are starring with record sales of the Bowel scan kits, with the program now being extended two weeks. Plus the Chocolate Sales are also firing, we must thank all those hardworking folks at emergency services for consuming a box a week. (Must be all the exercise they do, right Alan) International: Daryl has requested to send messages to Anna. If you do not have the email address, please reply and I will forward to you. Meet the GSE team night is on Friday April 4th at DG Ross Forgiones home. Please reply to me immediately if you wish to attend. New Generations: PP Steve Hendy is pleased to announce two nominations
for RYPEN and one for RYLA. (We actually had two, Steve has arranged for
Logan to have the other) |

From the President
Another week and more things happening, with congratulations to members for jobs well done. Community Service Director Marie and all the assistants had an excellent result in the sale of the Bowel Scan Kits at the Logan Hyperdome. Judy Farmer has facilitated several newspaper articles, which have certainly helped in the public awareness and sale of the kits. The most recent being in Wednesdays Albert and Logan News. The pres even got into the act with a small article on the excellent condition of Alexander Clarke Park, before we commenced our Clean Up Australia activity. Alan Short on the job again, firstly collecting medical equipment, delivering it to DIK, working on Rotary Headquarters, and returning my ute in one piece. As you were aware PE Peter Crouch had to resign from the club as a result of a major change in his work. Lorraine Howson has graciously consented to move forward and be our president for the 2003/2004 year. I sincerely thank Lorraine for agreeing to be our first lady President and especially at relatively short notice. Ian West, at short notice (well he did not read his email) gave a humorous and informative job talk, on a three matters, being a parent, being a Rotarian, and finally being an auditor. The last being a very good insight into why company failures such as HIH did not cause alarm bells to ring much earlier. Marie as our guest speaker, painted a brilliant word picture of the childhood many of us enjoyed, and then contrasted it with the way many young people grow up today. Feedback and observations from the members really added to the presentation. It gave me satisfaction to know as a Rotarian we are attempting to assist some of the young people to develop into mature well adjusted adults, through programs like the young achievers. Community Services: The passive income through the chocolates is continuing, and the collection and sale of the bowel scan kits is also going well. International: For any member wishing to contact Anna this is her email: anna_goanna_31@hotmail.com and Anna will now be receiving our weekly info bully. Club Service: Director David is chasing the Bowel Scan video tape. Our sign is also on the XXXX sign at the front of Fitzys, but as Logan has changed venue we will have to pay the entire cost. Vocational: Our visit to the PA hospital is on, and director Graeme will be chasing numbers Steve Hendy will accept late RYLA and RYPEN applicants but they must
be in ASAP. |
|||
20/01/2003 Issue21 We were very fortunate to have several visitors to our club, including PP of Beenleigh Bill Heck, who has been providing invaluable assistance to our outgoing youth exchange student Anna Kleinschmidt. With Bills help Anna will be able to have photo's video's and promotional material of our area to really give her presentations plenty of pizzaz. Accompanying Anna was mum Christine, with Susie Staden inviting hubby Leigh to attend our meeting. (I noted that Suzie arrived a bit late and left before I had a chance to chat to Leigh, just to update him!!!) Marie Grant fresh from a relaxing holiday with Mum and Dad in the Paris of the North (Charters Towers) gave us a very interesting job talk. (and yes everyone did listen, plus several questions were asked) The statistics Marie was able to quote off the cuff, showed the success of Crimestoppers, and Marie's enthusiasm for the role she plays is obvious. The guest speaking spot was conducted by a tandem team, PP Steve Hendy and Rylarian Josh Collings. If Ryla was something to be packaged and sold, after the inspiring talk by both the speakers we would be buying heaps. "The greatest thing that has happened in my life" was a quote from Josh and he spoke to support his statement. There is no doubt that RYLA is a Rotary program to be very proud of. Community Services: Marie informed us that the Bowel Scan project will be commencing on March 8th . Once again we will ask for the assistance of several Chemist shops in the area, plus we will attempt to combine Bowel Scan and the sale of tickets for the Ultimate Computer Desk. We will try for both the Hyperdome and Spar, suggested dates are 13th 15th and 16th of March. Clean up Australia is on again and we will be having a BBQ after our hard work at Alexander Clark Park. Our passive income is increasing with our Chocolate sales, so please see Marie if you require some for your workplace. International: Our Director Daryl is now a grandfather (congratulations for achieving that esteemed status) Daryl still requires one more host family for the GSE team. Club Service: David is still chasing Dues which are due. Our Rotary sign at the front of Fitzy's should be erected very soon. Vocational: Graeme is attempting to obtain a bus for us to use on our visit to the Coast Guard at Southport. Bus or no bus it is at Southport on March 3rd . H/T Darren Black. Jokers Wild PP David Gardner. Roz's Attendance 80%

--------------------------------------------------------From
the President Another week flies by and we are now doing the March 3rd Bully, but as usual we are not idle. So please remember. Sunday is Clean up Australia Day at Alexander Clark Park Loganholme. Starting time is 9.00am enabling a bit of a sleep in. I will attempt to be there early and we will meet at the Car park to the right of the front entry. To really top it off a bit of a Barby at the completion, knowing how fast we work, this may be a brunch. Then Monday we are off to the Air-Sea rescue at Southport. For those wise members taking the Bus it will depart Fitzy,s Car park at 6.00pm sharp. The only concern will be the battle for the driving spot either Ray Carter or Graeme Bosanquet, one will have to behave and keep away from the Bar. Oops the other concern, David Cocker and his "escorts" I know for those on the Bus the cost will be $25.00 I hope David has allowed a little extra. We were very pleased to have Sachi Ninomiya and hubby Nicholas at our meeting. Sachi is a Rotary foundation Ambassadorial Scholar, and is being hosted by Roz. Speaking of Roz, what a wonderful Job talk, it was an excellent example of how sheer determination will conquer adversity. It was very inspiring to listen to Roz walk us through her personal and professional life with the many obstacles that needed to be overcome. Program Director David Gardner is really getting the influential people to the club, last week Barbara Stone and this week our local councillor Pam Parker. (Although I had to spend a considerable amount of time apologising and consoling her for Davids non appearance) Pam is not afraid to be outspoken and supportive on issues that she believes in. Her desire to highlight the features of Logan City came through in her very informative speech. To assist PE Peter Crouch with his program for 2003/2004 we will be asking you to nominate just one person for a guest speaking spot. I will put out a form when we are next back at Fitzy's Regarding the inquiry on the CTP vehicle insurance (fund raising) I will also have further info, next meeting at Fitzy's. Although it will be in Peter's year, I have had a further meeting with Dr. Nigel Johnson on the joint running of the Topless Car Rally. It appears most of the hurdles (still waiting on the Public Liability Insurance) have been sorted out, and we will be able to start promoting the event. Community Services: Marie informed us that Bowel Scan is now commencing with the Kits going out. Also please check with her regarding your roster for the Hyperdome. The Chocolates are also bringing in some more passive Income, so please obtain more if you run out. International: Daryl tells us that Anna has arrived, and is on the move already. Attendance last week 80% Cheers Noel |

P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue19 From theVice President- After being away for a few weeks, it was really back into action on Monday. The pres had the pleasure of collecting a cheque from the CEO of the Logan Economic Development Board for our Bus Shelters. Plus the odd photo with the mayor, alongside me he looked good. Monday evening was part of our membership drive, unfortunately we had a few no shows. However we were treated to one of the best "job talks" I can recall from Judy Farmer, this was a true from the heart talk extolling the benefits that Rotary had on Judy's business and personal life. Judy reflected on how being a Rotarian had given her opportunities to be part of the community, and assisted in her business success. We certainly thankyou for reminding us what Rotary can do. It reminded me of the saying "Rotary enables ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things." But Judy I certainly feel you must take credit for the majority of your success. Monday night really was a star studded lineup, special guests included our local MP Barbara Stone and AG Daryl Krook. Knowing how pollies like to talk I made sure all comments to Barbara were made while she enjoyed the meal. AG Daryl was initially invited to support our membership night, and obviously to speak on the benefits of Rotary, with Judy Farmer giving such a superb job talk, Daryl really had to change his thoughts (and speech) but being up to the task, he quickly adjusted. We all really enjoyed his speech regarding the problems of having the academics and researchers in Universities becoming managers. Tuesday saw the start of the promotion for our Bowel Scan project, yes another photo for the paper, this time with our local councillor Darren Power. Wednesday was another day, which made me very proud to be a Rotarian with the official handover of the specially adapted wheelchair to Chantel Sustic. The funds for this were raised at our combined Police, Rotary and Lions Bowls day. We all must congratulate Community services director Marie Grant for superb organization of the Bowls day and the handover. Guess what more photos, (page 20 A&L news) and SGT Major Grant was really organizing the troops, especially the SUPERINTENDANT in Charge of the Logan police district and me. (Luckily Marie works for Crimestoppers, I could see a new career directing traffic coming up.) Community Services: Our Bowel Scan project still needs some volunteers for the Hyperdome. Vocational: Monday March 3rd we are off to the Air Sea Rescue base at Southport. Most of us by bus, except David Cocker who is (or will be) "escorted" by TWO charming ladies. !! PP Steve Hendy is seeking nominations for RYLA and Science School, both
are very beneficial programs, so put on the thinking cap and put some
names forward. |

P.O. Box 3034, Loganholme Qld 4129 Issue18 From theVice President- 10/02/2003 On 20 January we had the pleasure of listening to Marianne Mengels from the Royal Children's Foundation, talking about their Working Wonders Program. It was an excellent presentation. There was no meeting on 27 January as we celebrated Australia Day. On 3 February we had Terry Skene as our guest speaker. Terry is President of the Logan Chamber of Commerce, a director of the proposed Logan Community Bank and a director of the Logan Economic Development Board. Terry certainly has a passion for Logan City and gave an excellent run down on what is planned for the City. Last week we also inducted Chris Mitchell into our Club. Welcome Chris, we certainly know you will enjoy Rotary. Unfortunately we also lost a member, as Susie Staden has resigned to return to Sydney. Congratulations to PP Darryl Hood and PP Randal Dennings, who received Australia Day Awards from our local State Member Barbara Stone. Congratulations also to PP Allan Short who received his Rotary Foundation Centurion Certificate and pin. Community Services: Marie informed us that the Bowel Scan project will be commencing on March 8th . Once again we will have the assistance of several Chemist shops in the area, plus we will be at the Hyperdome from Fri 14th through Sun 16th of March. Clean up Australia is on Sun Mar 2 and we will be having a BBQ after our hard work at Alexander Clark Park. Our passive income is increasing with our Chocolate sales, so please see Marie if you require some for your workplace. Work is continuing on the Ultimate Computer Desk. Unfortunately we will not be able to sell tickets at the Hyperdome whilst we are doing Bowel Scan. International: All of the incoming GSE team have been placed. However Pres Noel is in as "emergency reserve" and Director Darryl is still looking for another family to add to the list. Club Service: David is still chasing Dues which are due. Our Rotary sign at the front of Fitzy's has been erected. We now need a sign writer to finish the project. Vocational: Graeme has obtained the Beenleigh Rotary Club bus for us to use on our visit to the Coast Guard at Southport on March 3rd. He will need numbers this week. 20 Jan - H/T PP Ian West. Jokers Wild David Khoury. Roz's Attendance

Issue17 From the President Our first night back and it was a club assembly! A big thankyou to PP Daryl Hood and AG Peter Nelson for filling in at very very short notice for Sgt and Job talk roles. I must say a very subdued group we were, (could it be due to the fact that both the lawyers were away!!!) all in the relaxed holiday mode! (Perhaps still recovering from the Christmas party at David and Laurette's) But it was full speed ahead for what is happening. Our ultimate computer desk is moving, and we have received support from the Disc Shop at Springwood for the supply of the latest Flat Screen Monitor. PE Peter Crouch and I have met with Nigel Johnson regarding the "Topless Car Rally", all seems positive but Peter will be running it by his board. Membership meeting on Feb 17th is under the capable guidance of PP Alan Short and if you do wish to put any names forward please contact him ASAP. RYLA applications are available from Steve Hendy and as the camp is early
(April 5th to 13th) it is advisable to get your nominations in ASAP Community Services: Marie at the last moment had her work roster changed and was an apology, however her committee showed what a team they are, and discussed the forthcoming Bowel Scan and Clean up Australia projects. The latter once again being at Alexander Clark Park but with a BBQ on completion. International: Once again Daryl has plenty on his plate. Host Families needed for the GSE team from Italy. We are a primary host club and we need to provide accommodation for the team from the 26th to the 30th of April. Plans were discussed for the RI convention hospitality night on June 2nd and there was support for a top BBQ to be put on at one of our homes, catering for all of our guests, rather than individually. Club Service: Fitzy's have advised of a price rise, and after discussion
it was agreed to increase the dinner dues by three dollars. Speaking of
dues our next six month dues are due. Vocational: Our March 3rd visit to the Coast Guard (partners welcome) at Southport is confirmed, and a further vocational evening is "in the pipeline" for May 12th Treasurer Barry, is overwhelmed with numbers for our evening at "Cabaret"
on April 3rd with 44 attending, but this time it is HIS credit card that
needs to be reduced, so can you please pay Barry at your earliest opportunity.
Registrar Roz gave us 80% attendance, great for our first night back.

Issue16 Fellow Rotarians, It seems hard to think that it is already December and Christmas is only two weeks away. Plus I am very nearly half way through my term. I trust we have provided you with an enjoyable meeting each week, thanks to the excellent work of programme director David Gardner, and the other directors in arranging interesting guest speakers and activities. We will review what we have done over the past six months later in the Rotary year, but we do need to consider our needs and projects for the next six months. Firstly, our membership drive, expertly handled by special projects director Alan Short, will culminate in our Rotary Information night on Feb 17th. Fundraising, not something that we place a strong emphasis on, but really do need to look at, to give ourselves sufficient funds to see our club projects be effective. Marie is doing a top job in getting some passive income for us. David Khoury and Daryl Hood are combining there talents to produce the ultimate computer desk, which we believe will be a very sought after raffle prize. In looking for one major fundraiser for the club, I have had a chat to Dr Nigel Johnson, who for several years has run the "Topless Car Rally".(raised $10.000 this year) Nigel, owing to the demands on his time will not be able to continue to organize this great event, I have indicated our interest in running it, however it will be in the new Rotary year, so PE Peter Crouch and his team will have to consider this. Finally our Rotary International Convention, will no doubt require every member of the club to contribute in some way, from the host dinner, to being a "meeter and greeter." The following item was recently emailed to me, and I think it will go some way to getting the Rotary message to the community at large.
